| The woodland (3.5 hectares or 8.5 acres) is entirely surrounded by walls and fences, the only access being the short path from the Centre. The terrain is varied in both forestation and contour. The potential difficulties are detailed in a comprehensive Risk Assessment document. The triangular straight-edged shape of the wood makes it ideal for learning to gauge distances and identify features to find the controls.
Maps of the garden area at the rear of the Centre are ideal for practising orientation skills before trying the easiest of the four woodland courses. These vary in complexity, three with ten controls each, and the fourth comprising all thirty controls. Full instructions (suitable for anyone with little or no experience of orienteering) and the woodland Risk Assessment are provided and this information can be E-mailed in advance, enabling you to study it and call us with any queries. You are welcome to adapt the instructions to suit your group's requirements. All other necessary equipment is provided on arrival.
And the cost? Day Visitors just £2.50 per head (including VAT) for each participant, with leaders free of charge. Residential Groups use it free. You do not have to hire the Centre itself in order to use the courses but you do need to book, so please call the Centre for more information, or to make an appointment for an initial visit.
