Coldwell Activity Centre is a ‘not for profit’ organisation. The centre is a special place which does a lot of good work for some very unfortunate people and disadvantaged individuals. Our small team of staff, and volunteers, love Coldwell for this reason. The centre has a reputation for being a friendly atmosphere place where anyone is welcome.
The Coldwell staff are pictured above. You’ll see them many times during your stay as these will be the people who’ll be doing their very best to make your stay warm and friendly. They all muck in and share the jobs, so, don’t be surprised to see the manger serving you your breakfast – that’s just the sort of place this is.
There’s only a few of us, so we thought we’d use this page to show you our small and friendly team and the faces behind the centre:
My name is Claire, and I have worked at Coldwell for the last 4 and a half years. I started off doing a few hours a week admin, and I am now the Centre Manager.
I am so lucky that I have a job which I love and working in beautiful surroundings with fantastic colleagues and meeting loads of interesting groups of people. Although my work at Coldwell is primarily handling the finances, reports, and admin, I spend much of my working time preparing and cooking for the groups with Joanne, Glen, and our volunteers. Outside work I enjoy walking my two dogs and looking after my garden. I also love baking which comes in handy when feeding my large family. I hope you enjoy your stay at Coldwell. I’m sure you will love it as much as we do!
I have worked at Coldwell Activity Centre for three and half years. I have worked in various jobs in the past from being a dancer in Spain in my teenage years to working in retail and Customer Service for most of my working life , then working in security.
I was made redundant and really became at a loss as I have always worked and needed some purpose again. I started volunteering in the gardens on my own, then a position came available for 6 months under a government scheme.
I have had some fantastic volunteers of which one of them Glen, I am pleased to say has now succeeded in employment here through his hard work. I am now dealing with the marketing and customer service side. With such a small staff team we all participate in the daily runnings of the Centre including cleaning, working with volunteers, cooking for groups, helping in the Café and more.
I have to say we work very well as a team and we take pride in the success of the volunteers confidence and skills increasing whilst being here.
Our groups are extremely important to us and we will do our very best to make sure they have a brilliant stay as for some of them this is the first time they have had a break away.
Coldwell Activity Centre is a perfect relaxed environment with beautiful surroundings which I can highly recommend.
Initially I came to Coldwell as a volunteer and was made to feel very welcome and I soon settled in. Eventually a vacancy became available and I joined the team on a full time basis. It is a pleasure to work in an environment where the entire staff pull together and are totally committed to making any visit to Coldwell a truly enjoyable experience.
My day to day duties include looking after the maintenance of the buildings and the upkeep of the gardens and grounds. I am assisted by a fantastic team of volunteers and helpers who seem to thrive in the work based opportunities available.
The volunteer programme is very rewarding for all that take part as they learn new skills, gain confidence and work experience in a friendly and fun environment. Hopefully the skills they learn will enable them to improve their CV and propel them towards finding employment. We have had many success stories and the staff take great pride that we have helped anyone to achieve their goals. Coldwell is a truly unique place. It possesses a peaceful aura which makes it the ideal place to work, study or relax.
Our Mission Statement
The Coldwell Inn Project is a charitable trust that provides opportunities for disadvantaged people, particularly young people, to experience healthy activities and learn with, about and from others in an exciting and stimulating environment
All our income goes to maintaining and developing the Coldwell Inn Project, the building, site and facilities, so that we can offer a greater range and amount of such activities to more and more deserving people.
Your support is greatly valued whether it is eating in our café, buying our flowers, vegetables or the offerings in our shop, hiring our facilities or even volunteering to help, and we sincerely thank you for it.
Coldwell aims to finance all its own expenditure through providing goods and services its customers value and to do so in an efficient way which returns a surplus. Such a surplus is solely used to help fund particularly deserving groups who wish to use Coldwell but have difficulty finding the resources to do so.
Coldwell is also a centre for voluntary workers. It provides work experience, qualifications and job search help, for people who are looking for work. It especially helps people who may have become detached from society, through mental health issues, physical incapacity, or isolation, by providing a safe, friendly, relaxed and community based environment, where they may feel valued and gain job satisfaction.
